Quoted in the Grove:

Poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese.
~GK Chesterton

Well, and what’s cheese? Corpse of milk.
~James Joyce

Cheese – milk’s leap toward immortality.

Not much happening in the grove this week, so this gives us a chance to try a single-person exercise, a word game for one

Read the following poem, not aloud. Let the words tumble around in your mouth, in your mind. Silently. Feel the pressure of their sounds on your tongue. It’s a happy reinterpretation of a classic from childhood. Do this a couple times, then overlay it with the poem you remember from your puppy days. Hear them echo, feel them vibrate to each other’s difference

Scintillate, scintillate globule vivific
Fain would I fathom thy nature specific
Loftily perched in the ether capacious
Strongly resembling a gem carbonaceous*

~Stejovis: Lacuna Redux
It’s no longer global warming but climate change that crippled his town; a local resident, a DC pol, assures voter that Wash will help pay and fix everything and look, the sun is out; but some things are gone forever

~Greymane: Carbon
Born of star dust, warriors and pioneers of their race, daughters of the universe guided by Unseen hands; blessed, and still their destiny is in question

~Piffin: “Rockette, man!” many feet later, rhythmic legs

~BarTalk: thermostat

Impromptu: money, feelings

~Piffin: “Fanfare” the grand discovery of life, its end

~Greymane: untitled
The foolish old man versus a world gone grey; pinkies win against the pallid and the world is happy to pay

~Stejovis:  Delores
The eyes-bright smile of recognition, then … nothing; the mind has gone to ground in wilderness, returns to visit less often of late, and now must survive alone

~BarTalk: the transaction

Quoted in the Grove:
I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can’t see from the center.
~Kurt Vonnegut, Jr

I shut my eyes in order to see.
~Paul Gauguin

Would there be this eternal seeking if the found existed?

The editor of the Wordgrove Post & Review will be absent a brief time while relocating for a year to focus on a writing project. This place will require new internet connections. With travel and setup time, and with sporadic access in between, there will be a couple weeks of inconsistent presence before returning full time to WG

A focus on writing being the essential reason and purpose of Wordgrove, it was important to have someone with that same goal at the helm in those between times. Piffin has been asked to stand in as host for Thurs Word Games, and as editor for the Post & Review from Mar 6, until this editor returns sometime in *scratches head* late March. It’ll be a good and interesting time for everyone, especially me … um, the editor

One suggestion of Piffin’s with wide approval won’t be waiting until March to start, but began last Thurs. From hereon, a single person becomes responsible for choosing both the Impromptu and Prewritten assignments for the week. This will remove the fatal dithering that has become the process for choosing until now. Most excellent. Show up for details

Journeys of the fallen fighting up thru failures; please, is there a reason for this … or is it a case of divine insanity, godly inattention or a deified caprice that decided life should be lived as hell?

~Piffin: haiku (quoted)

I wrote a note to
Piscators; phonetic net,
Penmanship a mesh

~BarTalk: A Scourge of Turkeys

Cupid has a lot to answer for; there’d be no broken hearts later, or the happiness now

@Creative Intentions ~ The ever-morphing nature of art is represented again by Jessalee’s protean paz, Creative Intentions. Jessa is looking for specific types of places as well as hidden and unusual sites in There that might be used in her There-based epic, No Longer Spoken. Please check out her flyer in front of the large ThereyBook Tales display for details. Her new location is west of the platform, a bit up the hill and south of Cinderella Sneakers. Look for Japanese maples and a field of falling hearts

Quoted in the Grove:

In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you.
~Buddha

To live in this world, you must be able to do three things: to love what is mortal; to hold it against your bones knowing your own life depends on it; and, when the time comes to let it go, to let it go.
~Mary Oliver

There are only three things to be done with a woman. You can love her, suffer for her, or turn her into literature.
~Lawrence Durrell

Readers of the Post & Review will notice the rare occasion when individual quotes reappear in a different context. Just as words are used and reused to provide different shadings in their instance, so too can individual thoughts be reemployed to contribute different colorations of meaning. Well-made quotes are beautiful in their succinctness and contribute a special sparkle, as tho gems to a necklace of thought. This editor asks your forbearance if he reintroduces an old friend who stopped by to help

Quoted in the Grove:

Money often costs too much.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

They deem me mad because I will not sell my days for gold; and I deem them mad because they think my days have a price.
~Kahlil Gibran

It was a Sunday afternoon, wet and cheerless; and a duller spectacle this earth of ours has not to show than a rainy Sunday in London.
~Thomas de Quincey

Thx is back with a portal paz on the southeast rise above WG. Pass thru from either side to the other and find yourself back in WG. An exercise in time/space displacement with no discernable loss or benefit, no effect, no change of perspective. It serves merely as example, an existential koan. Welcome back Thx

Something different this week. Two visuals suggested by Piffin range from portrait as parfait to a boric acid bath for the eyes. The first is a trailer for the animated movie, Fantastic Planet. There’s nothing to be said that will prepare you for it. Just enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgCxCZNkQ9E
