Quoted in the Grove:
I love sleep. My life has the tendency to fall apart when I’m awake, you know?
~Ernest Hemingway

Accept everything about yourself–I mean everything. You are you and that is the beginning and the end–no apologies, no regrets.
~Henry Kissinger

My experience of life is that it is not divided up into genres; it’s a horrifying, romantic, tragic, comical, science-fiction cowboy detective novel. You know, with a bit of pornography if you’re lucky.

Thurs Word Games was subdued this week and produced no new writing. The impromptu exercise was scuttled in favor of coming to terms…. Different people stopped by to chat, stayed a while and left. The talk was about light, but the mood was dark. It was about Piffin

The news isn’t good, but it leaves room for hope. After two weeks in intensive care, Piffin isn’t responding to treatment as expected.  Prognosis is uncertain. Her family is otherwise engaged at the moment; news will arrive when it is warranted

The prayer that says ‘thank you’ is usually sufficient to get one thru life. But there comes a time when even the unknowing and unbelieving find a reason to ask the universe for a favor. Whatever happens, it can’t be ruled out that there is Someone who listens to prayer, our perturbations in the ether. If it is in your power to send healing her way (because there are those who can), please do.  For the rest of us, it might help to believe; but even if not, it can’t hurt her to think of Piffin in a moment of prayer. As noted, news from the Post & Review isn’t good this week, so it goes out early in order that prayers can be said

Ginger Leigh, the third novella in the four book mini-series, Noble Gabe Alone, is finished. The chapters are generally short. All 18 of them will be dropped on display tables behind the well in Wordgrove. They’ll be remain out waiting for Piffin’s return

A too-quiet week in the grove. Greenie is away taking care of another’s needs; we wait for Piffin’s return from the borderlands. In the meantime …

How long should a book be to optimize its acceptance in the publishing world? This article covers the range of book lengths (in number of words), for various markets. It does not include information on newer, shorter forms of fiction, but the coverage is otherwise broad and useful

Quoted in the Grove:
The unreal is more profound than the real, because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it. because it is only intangible ideas, concepts, beliefs, fantasies that last. stone crumbles, wood rots, people, well, they die. but things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on.
~Chuck Palahniuk

Without poets, without artists, everything would fall apart into chaos. There would be no more seasons, no more civilizations, no more thought, no more humanity, no more life even; and impotent darkness would reign forever. Poets and artists together determine the features of their age, and the future meekly conforms to their edit.
~Apollinaire

OnStage @Wordgrove East is still a good idea … just not well attended. Since this editor has more time on his hands without the distractions of civilization, he will be inworld more often, and will occasionally put out an Activity Flag for OnStage, as time allows. There has its own catalog of distractions

Asses are for sitting
Asses are for chaps

On one night motel rides
Asses are for rubbing liniment
And baby earl
Asses are for scrubbing clean
You dirty, dirty girl
Asses, my damnation
Asses, bless my soul
Assly fascination

Holy smoke, now,
Everyone loves asses
Love primal and profound

Men are like the earth and we are the moon; we turn always one side to them, and they think there is no other, because they don’t see it / but there is.

A favorite quote:
If you want to give the gods a good laugh, tell them your plans for the future. ~John Chancellor

This will serve as Wordgrove’s official explanation for the response to our plans for OnStage  @Wordgrove East. It appears that a choice other than a free weekend (when everyone will be out in their knickers and finery entertaining crowds), would have been a more judicious choice. Seemingly, the talent has already been signed and have gigs for the night. This is the hopeful reason. Or there remains the bleak prospect that the talent pool is drying up, or they don’t care to make music anymore. This editor blinks in consternation that either of these might be true

We’ll do our little bit anyway. Good practice. We’ll plant our Activity flag, give it an hour, then hotfoot it over to Thumdar’s musical extravaganza in Tyr’s Boneyard where the kickin’ action is. Or we can climb the sky with our hover boards on the Bones for a while, or go buggy jousting at a bridge (huge fun for 20 minutes) … or just hang out and chat

If interested in a different sort of interlude between sets of your favorite performers, drop by Wordgrove East Fri evening (5/9) @6p PT/9p ET for readings and chat. Click on the link below to visit OnStage for a preview:

Greenie has designed a Standing Tag with Microphone for use OnStage that works with Shoutcast. This would be a chance to stop by and see how it works. She is also designing a contained-light box for directing beamed light on a performance. A fully functioning spotlight. Entertainers take note

~Piffin: “Crumbs”

~Greymane: Chessman
The King and Queen of statues, one wields power while the other wears a crown; brutal wars lay waste the population, trade this for that, metaphoric battles of the Board

~Greenie: Waiting
Age old enmities, positions hardened into stone; the waiting’s over, let the board war begin

~Jessalee: And then, there were two
Only the seductive warrior Queen, the praying mantis of royalty who eats her mates, and the lowly pawn, a helpless fawn of the wild wood, remain to save the realm; Queen Amazon lays into the opposing ranks and dies in sacrifice, leaves the tender one to move up and seduce the King

~Stejovis: What Happens When Not Inspired (quoted)

a writer named agate the crusty
tells a tale that’s entirely trusty.
seems a chessman she knew
lost a marble or two
and his games have become something lusty.

Editor’s note:  One wants to see the word ‘notably’ used somewhere in the poem.  Tasty sweet for impromptu
